I have a question/concern about my clutch/brake adjustment on my 350b loader. I bought the machine with it needing undercarriage, that has been taken care of. The left side clutch would slip under a heavy load, I decided to try adjusting the clutches/brakes to see what that would do.After I went through the clutch adjustment procedure in the SM the left side now pulls and stops GREAT, right side pulls and stops GREAT.

The machine will either slip the tracks, or kill the engine whichever comes first (provided I dont accidentally bump the clutch pedal-another issue). My issue is that the right side now squeals the brake if you ease into a turn (i.e. Just clutch no brake). Today I tried backing the brake set screw off a little at a time to see if it was just too tight, it seemed to help some but after a full 2 turns back out I got nervous and quit playing with it. Machine still pushes, pulls, turns ETC correctly. IT just makes a squealing noise when you clutch the right side without stopping the track with the brake.

Any ideas?Separate question: The clutch rod (pressure release for reverser), how much free play should it have? I cannot find it in the manual but if I TOUCH the clutch pedal it begins releasing, and will stop driving with power very easily. I am getting better about not touching the pedal, but I am 6'3 and wear a size 12.5 boot, there isnt a lot of extra room down there.Jason. Jason,Your steering clutch issue is probably rust or perhaps some debris that has gotten caught in the clutch pack. You might also try backing the main brake adjusting bolt off by one detent or a half turn. In other words as you back it off you will feel it climb on top of the detent shoulders getting tight and then loosen as it drops back down in the detent. You may need to adjust that side again and try not to over tighten the main brake bolt.

This is the large bolt I'm talking about. See what happens. You can go as much as one full turn but I wouldn't go any more than that.Your other issue with the reverser clutch release. This could be a few things.

Do the simple things first and that would be take the floor boards out and check for debris down in and around the linkage. Make sure there is nothing in the way causing the clutch pedal from not returning all the way back. Look especially around the accumulator lever on the valve body.

Look also for bent linkage, like the rod that connects the accumulator lever with the clutch pedal. Check the clutch pedal itself to make sure it isn't hanging on something and not letting it fully return. All it takes is a very small piece of debris to cause your issue. If you don't find anything wrong in this area then you will need to look inside the valve body. You may need to remove the end cover on the accumulator housing and check the adjustment on the accumulator piston stop bolt. If you do try this, be extremely careful because the accumulator spring is quite large and has considerable force pushing on this cover.

Loosen the bolts first and then tap the cover until it opens and then back the bolts out slowly until you can release the tension on this spring. Your tech manual will give the measurement for the stop bolt. I don't recall what that measurement is but can look it up if you can't find it. It may even be in the archives here for that matter.Let us know what you find and good luck.

Thanks Leonard. I am going to to play with that loader a bit today and will try the brake band adjustment bolt as well. I left the cover off that side so I could try again with ease. As far as the clutch pedal issue, I will take another look at the linkage but I took the floor plates out and steam cleaned the unit when I bought it, so it should still be fairly clean. It will be easy to see if there is a bent linkage, or blockage at this point. I may have somewhat solved the biggest part of this issue, when I bought the machine there were NO bolts holding the floor plates down, they were ALL broken off. I got out 3 or 4 of the broken bolts yesterday and was able to bolt the plates down for once.

This stops my feet from easily sliding forward and pushing the plates up against the pedal arm. Maybe that could have been the whole issue, the plates could have never been in the correct place causing the pedal to have been blocked forward. We shall see, it will get ran a little today due to a broken excavator.Jason. Leonard, I believe the floor plates being loose were my issue! The machine seems to be working just fine now. I still believe it will need steering clutches one day soon but I hope to finish this pond project before I tear it down for that. I only believe it will need clutches because I CAN slip the left side if I dont work the machine right, although that seems to come and go a bit, maybe I have binding linkage.

The right side pulls great but I believe the brake noise is due to either an oily brake band, or a brake band that was ran for a long time out of adjustment. Either way, I am fully capable of pulling the finals and replacing clutches, brakes and seals. I just would really prefer to finish this project, and work on the machine NEXT winter. Thanks again!Jason.
