Working at this location they would typically give you around 20 to 25 hours a week on average but as time went by I noticed that many new associates were given more hours despite that I had previous experience in food service.It seems that there is no advancement or pay raises unless you are a favored employee. The job is really for someone who is either in school or just looking for a second part-time job. Managers don't care to train their associates and because of that result we had least 4 people quit within less than a month of starting the majority of them walked out due to the lack of direction and training. The companies turnover rate is extremely high due to hours and pay. What I do at food lion is run a register. I scan and bag items for customers. It is a very fast pace work environment, constantly helping someone.
Store manager is very nice and understanding. The customer service managers is who the cashiers deal with regularly versus the store manager. In my personal experience, cashiers don't get good praises or told they are doing good.

We tend to be approached more negatively rather then positively. They focus on all the things that are wrong instead of telling us all the good things we have accomplished. There is also no positive reinforcement when we make mistakes. The hardest part of the job is coming into work and wondering what you did wrong in their eyes, since its a daily thing. The most enjoyable part of the job is honestly having nice customers, taking breaks and leaving. The work atmosphere is weird because you never know what you will get or hear from the customer service managers. Definitely keeps you on your toes.
